Stuck in captcha chat

When playing I randomly got a message in chat saying type captcha because game thought I was afk. I tried typing in the random letters but nothing worked and I tried logging in and out and closing the client still nothing worked.
am I doing something wrong? Do I have to put a chat command then type the randomly generated letters?
what I was doing was typing / and typing the letters after that for example /Asdpl
