Suggested Order of New Content to Release

Hello everyone,

Being a long time player that has dedicated a lot of time to this server I have a strong understanding of what kind of content we could reasonably expect from our smart but talented team as well as a good idea of what kind of updates would be popular with our now large player base. I think it's important to understand the criteria of why I think this order of updates would be best for the game. I am also a player that believes this server is more similar to the 2013 release of OldSchool RuneScape rather than current day OSRS.
  1. Preventing roadblocks: What good is updating the game if the updates would take too long to implement? I wouldn't want bandit to spend 8 months coding Chambers of Xeric only to push the update and realize that everyone left. I believe that consistent updates will help retain players. This doesn't mean that I disagree with large updates but that large updates should be worked on over time so that the players will have something to do in the meantime. Most importantly, I think that each of the modeling/build/dev teams should always have something to work on rather than having to wait for the team that has to do more work.
  2. Avoid temporary fixes: Both bandit and I don’t like the idea of adding things to the game in a janky way. The only reason that some things were released this way is because the server was very different 6 months ago. The best mob we had for a long time was hill giants. I dislike the idea of adding sharks to Karamja, that’s just not right. We don’t need to add the mage guild NPC to the GE to add mystic into the game. We don’t need to make every rune craftable from the Abyss without the altars being in place. That’s janky and not what I think the server should be. We aren’t gameslab, things should be released in a reasonable order.
  3. Avoid making other future content "dead on release": In addition to things being released in a reasonable order, I think that it’s important to prevent content from being dead on release. Most dragon armor should be released before barrows. Most dragon weapons should be released before the whip. We don’t need a toxic blowpipe before an MSB and we don’t need a GMaul before a DDS. This is important because it gives a reason to play and to get these items as they are a current best in slot. All of the rune items wouldn’t have been worth anything if granite armor was available from a vender for some reason. This guideline gives a reason for players to play and allows for a healthy economy. It’s why Blizzard didn’t release the entirety of WoW classic in 1 update, they spread it out.

Now I will propose the order that I think will be best.
  1. Partial wilderness release: It’s clear that the entirety of the wilderness is a HUGE task that would take a very long time with our small but talented build team. I think that it would be best to release the part of the wilderness that is done even if it is less than level 20 wilderness. The parts of the wilderness update that I think are the most important are: Chaos rune altar, green dragons being moved, PVP, and correct mob placement. I do not think it is important to add anything added in the wilderness rejuvenation update such as the elder chaos druids, mammoths, or ents.
  2. Stronghold of security: With all of the mobs inside the stronghold already modeled, it’s clear that the only step left to add this update would be for the builders to finish the stronghold. I think it would be a popular update because people are sick of killing only green dragons and hill giants over and over. With green dragons being moved to the wildy, basically half of the PVM content would now be dangerous. I think the most important part of this update would be correct mob drop tables, all of the mobs, and the 10,000 coins obtainable once per character. I don’t think the door questions should be added.
  3. Slayer update: With the mobs added from the previous two updates, Krystilia should become wilderness only and Vannaka should be added. It would be nice to see other mobs added to the locations that they belong in such as moss giants to the Varrock sewers and ice giants/warriors added to the ice dungeon, maybe wyverns too but they aren’t a priority.
  4. Lost City Quest: From here on the order is interchangeable because they are pretty far out of the way. Lost city would be an easy quest to add as there are no prerequisites. The difficult part of adding it would be building Entrana and coding the boat to not allow any combat items. This would add the dragon longsword and dragon dagger which would be the new melee best in slot weapons. This would require adding their special attacks so that we would finally have KO weapons for PVP. I do not think that this update should include Zanaris because that would take too long to build. Zanaris instead should be a temporary room that would have the vendor that sells the dragon dagger and dragon longsword for a price much higher than currently in game. It would be a good idea to have these cost over 1mil so that there would be an item worth risking in the wilderness as well as take gold out of the game.
  5. Taverly / Herblore / Giant Mole Release: I think a good next step would be to add the herblore skill because now there are enough mobs that drop herbs. With herblore would have to come Taverly because the skill is quest locked. This would also mean that Taverly dungeon would be added with all of its mobs such as: blue and black dragons, black demons, and chaos druids. Taverly being released also opens up the way for the western half of the world which would add a significant amount of content. The giant mole would be the first boss of the server which is something that gameslab players always talk about them having while we don’t. Adding giant mole would be the main way to get birds nest for Saradomin brews, necessary for later PVM and PVP content. In addition, antifire potions from herblore would open up metal dragons and KBD and antipoison would open up KBD as well as Kalphites.
  6. Brimhaven & its dungeon: The next map update that would be exciting would be adding Brimhaven, but not necessarily the rest of Karamja. Brimhaven itself doesn’t have that much content besides the agility arena which I don’t think should be added yet, but the mining spot and dungeon would be amazing! The dungeon itself would add metal dragons, red dragons, moss giants, fire giants, and greater demons. These would be great late game monsters and good slayer monsters. The iron and steel dragons would be able to drop the draconic visage which might not be added yet, but they would drop dragon platelegs which would be a new best in slot.
  7. Combat updates / Wilderness expansion / KBD release: I think the next update would be finishing the wilderness to its pre-rejuvenation state. Adding the king black dragon would be a great boss to do in teams and the deep wilderness would be a great reason to invite your friends to the server. KBD would add the Visage and DFS as well as the dragon pickaxe, a great reason to kill this boss. I think it would also be important to add new combat functionality. In the wilderness, the range of melee weapons should be 3 blocks, similar to Minecraft as well as the 1:3 scale that the world is built in. It would be too easy to run away from players using melee, leaving ranged to be the only viable option. In addition, I would like to see teleblock, snare, and curses functionality added by this time to give magic a use. Also in this update it would be nice to see the overhead prayers have added functionality as well as their PVP counterparts (yes bandit, they work differently in PVP 😞 ). Finally new functionality should be given to the F key. I believe that a new system would be important for PVP and PVM content. Pressing the F key would switch your hotbar from items, to hotkeys that you could bind. Things that you could bind would be prayers, eating food, drinking potions, casting spells, and maybe using special attacks if you don’t code it to go off of shift clicking. The eating/drinking binds would eat a piece of the selected food and would display how many of that food you have in your inventory. Currently, you can have a swordfish on your “2” key but as soon as you eat it, it goes away. In the bind, it would eat the food but you could still press 2 to eat the next piece of that food. This would make it a lot more convenient to PVP/PVM with the restrictions of Minecraft.
  8. Kalphite Queen Release: Because KQ is so close to the top of the desert, I think it would be reasonable to add KQ without the rest of the desert. This would add another classic RuneScape boss that would add the dragon chainbody, a new best in slot item. It's notable that this update should happen after protection prayers as that adds to the difficulty of this boss. It's not necessary that this update comes after anti-poison as that could be a unique difficulty of this boss.
  9. Morytania: Finally, Morytania would be added so that the slayer tower can be added with it. I think that this should be released so late because it is a very big build and would release items that would be much more powerful than what we currently have. Even though we already have the mobs for the slayer tower, notably the abyssal demons, I think that adding the abyssal whip before dragon weapons would be horrible for game balance and make dragon weapons dead on release. If Morytania is heavily requested, I think that it should be released without abyssal demons and without gargoyles. I think the granite maul is too OP of a pvp weapon and would make Godswords not as significant as they could be when released in the future. However I do acknowledge the importance of adding a reason to train slayer.

Having spoken with Routhless prior to this post being made I would echo pretty much every point that has been highlighted in this post.

I enjoy what is available now and what is to come but I feel like with the right direction we can provide the best experience for everyone.
 
I'm in agreement with this as well. This would give the game a solid roadmap and would keep it from getting stale. Rushed content isn't what we need; we need quality content.

i agree with a lot of this. but i'd honestly rather taverly + taverly dungeon over most of the content.

I feel like taverly unlocks a big part of the game. adds a lot to drop tables.

I mean to solve the MSB problem we could make mage training arena and add master wand mages book infinity robes + a magic tree out front of MTA.

I feel like the space we have can be used so much better.

Crafting guild alone should be the utmost closest update... it's blacked out but will literally change the game crafting wise.

and fletching if flax ends up staying there.


My fears are that the minecraft players and the runescape players will have a disconnect when wildy comes out.


minecraft combat and osrs combat is very different.
not to mention most of the players trying to slay.

should make an option on the slayer master to turn off wildy tasks. Or make it auto turned off and you have to turn it on for " harder tasks "

and if wildy doesn't come out with better food it's an rng gamble cause if you eat you die.
we can smack 38's with RCB + rigour.

RCB + rigour wasn't in classic if it would have been it'dhave been too strong and deemed broken af.


EDIT.

ON a second thought maybe releasing full MTA is a bit broken...
would make mystics obsolete.
I do think putting magic tree's there though isn't that bad.
Maybe im not sure now about the MTA + magic tree idea xD

I do not want high level fishing in the wildy like RS3 tho cause a ton of people are assuming sharks will come with wild.y
